Abstract
Studi mengenai perilaku membaca dari sudut pandang cultural studies memang telah menghasilkan temuan-temuan menarik. Apalagi dengan melihat bahwa kegiatan membaca yang didalangi oleh industri budaya populer. Sebagai sebuah startegi untuk mendapatkan keuntungan tiada henti, industri budaya populer pun menciptakan tren yang langsung disambut meriah oleh kelompok anak muda urban, seperti di Surabaya. Bacaan genre dystopia yang tengah ramai diperbincangkan ini tidak lepas dari bagaimana industri budaya populer pandai mengemas imajinasi yang belum pernah dibayangkan sebelumnya menjadi sebuah komoditas. Dengan menggunakan teori Simulakra milik Baudrillard, studi ini ingin melihat bagaimana proses pengalaman membaca yang dialami oleh anak muda Surabaya dalam melakukan kegiatan membaca novel bergenre dystopia. Mengacu pada teori Simulakra dikatakan bahwa industri budaya populer memiliki misi untuk membuat kelompok anak muda menjadi hiperealis sehingga bisa dengan mudah dihegemoni. Dari studi ini didapatkan hasil kalangan anak muda urban dalam proses pemaknaan membaca novel dystopia terbagi menjadi dua tipe yakni pembaca simulakra temporer (temporary simulacra) dan pembaca hiperealis. Adanya dua tipe pembaca tersebut tidak lepas dari taktik industri budaya populer dalam menghegemoni kalangan anak muda sebagai target pasar mereka Translation: Study about reading habit in cultural studies already given interesting results. Moreover to see how reading activity is created by popular culture industry. As a strategy to gain more non-stop profits, the popular culture industry is also created trend which directly welcomed by the urban youth, such as in Surabaya. Dystopia as one of fiction genre which is being famous nowadays is related to how popular culture packs the imagination which never been imagined before to become a commodity. With the use of Simulacra theory by Baudrillard, this study want to see the process of meaning inside reading activity which experienced by the Surabaya youth when they are reading dystopian novel. According to the Simulacra theory, it says that popular culture has mission to make the youth become a hyperealist so they can easily put into certain hegemony. From this research, the results of the process of meaning in reading dystopian novel among urban youth they are Temporary Simulacra Reader and Hyperealist Reader. Those two models of reader is also a tricked created by the capitalist industry inside popular culture.
