Abstract

Life expectancy the people of Indonesia continues to increase and the number of Indonesian women entering menopause is currently increasing every year. Period 1 July 2009-30 September 2011 there were 41 cases (about 2.7% of new cases of cancer patients) of patients newly diagnosed with endometrial cancer. The purpose of this research was to study the risk factors associated with the occurrence of endometrial cancer in new patients at Oncology Unit RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. This research was conducted by hospital based case-control design. Sample of cases is all new patients period 1 July 2009-30 September 2011 with endometrial cancer were 41 cases and control is all new patients not endometrial cancer were 82 controls. Analyze relationships between variables using chi square tests and Fisher exact test. The test results of analysis show two risk factors associated with p <0.05 which are the age (p = 0.027, OR = 2.597; 95% CI: 1.187 to 5.685) and hypertension (p = 0.014, OR = 3.109; 95% CI: 1.327 -7.282). Variables that did not relate that early menarche (.332), parity (0.548) and diabetes mellitus (1.000). Risk factors associated with the incidence of endometrial cancer in Oncology Unit of RSUD Dr. Soetomo are age and hypertension.
