Abstract

Breastfeeding is right for mothers including working mothers. Working mothers often get difficulties in exclusive breastfeeding because of limited time and facilities for breastfeeding in working area. The impact is most of working mothers perforce to change breast milk into bottle milk and stop breastfeeding. Feeding the baby with breast milk shouldn’t be direct from mother’s breast. Pumping the breast milk and storing it well can be fed to the baby when mother is working, so knowledge about stored breast milk is important. Working mothers with good knowledge about stored breast milk are expected to have positive attitude in breastfeeding, so they can breastfeed their babies although they are working. This research is analytic with cross sectional approach. The subject is working mothers who have babies at the age of 0-12 months in RW 06, the working area of Puskesmas Pakis Surabaya, with 59 samples. Sampling technique used simple random sampling. In collecting data, researcher used questionnaires. Analyzed data used chi square (x2) with α (alpha) 0.05. Correlation test used Coefficient Contingency (C). The result showed that, 62,7% working mothers have enough knowledge. 55,9% working mothers have negative attitude in breastfeeding. The result of chi square is found that p value =0.000, p<0.05 which means that there is correlation between knowledge about stored breast milk with attitude in breastfeeding. The result of correlation test is found that C value= 0.481 which is included in medium category. The conclusion of the research are most of working mothers have enough knowledge and negative attitude in breastfeeding, there is a correlation between knowledge about stored breast milk with attitude in breastfeeding among working mothers and the strength of correlation is included in medium category.
