Abstract

Background. Candida albicans can cause health problems in the oral cavity tissue. Few that occured is require treatment with antifungal. However, treatment with antifungal drug has side effects. Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. flower contain cyanidin and quercetin that have been reported to have antifungal activity against various fungal pathogens. By the trial that have been done, a concentration of 40% was not give significant result. So that, this study have to increase the concentration to 100%, 87.5%, 75%, 62.5%, 50%, expected for significant result. Purpose. The aim of this study was to know the antifungal potentiality of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. flower extract with a concentration of 100%, 87.5%, 75%, 62.5%, 50% against Candida albicans. Method. For each 25 grams of powdered dried flowers that have been placed in 100 ml of methanol to get pure extract evapourator without solvent. This research using multiple depletion to get a concentration of 50%, 62.5%, 75%, 87.5%, 100%. To ensure the growth of Candida albicans, is done by culturing on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar medium. Results. There were significant difference between positive control and a concentration of 50%, 62.5%. Conclusion. There are differences inhibitory effect of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. flower extract against Candida albicans at a concentration of 50% and MIC at 62.5%.
