Abstract

Sarang Semut (Myrmecodia pendens) is widely known as remedy herbs by indigenous people in Papua. It is well known as traditional medication for many diseases such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, kidney diseases, etc. Aside from its curative properties, sarang semut extract has been studied for its lymphoproliferative properties In Vitro. No research attempt has been made to reveal this benefit In Vivo. Purpose. This research aims on exploring lymphoproliferative properties of Sarang Semut extract in Vivo. Method. Three groups of Wistar Rats are fed orally with Sarang Semut extract for five days. The dosage for group 1-3 are 135 mg/kgBW, 200 mg/kgBW, and 270 mg/kgBW. Negative control group is fed with sterile aquades and positive control group is fed with Meniran extract. On the fifth day, rats from all groups are terminated and their blood is extracted. These blood specimens are then prepared for histology examination. Result. The result of this study showed that Sarang Semut extract insignificantly (p>0.05) induces lymphocyte proliferation on Wistar rats peripheral blood. Conclusion. Sarang semut extract insignificantly induces lymphocyte proliferation on Wistar rats.
