Abstract

Oral candidiasis is an infection of candida species in oral cavity and usually occurs in immunocompromised patient. The isolate of oral candidiasis in HIV/AIDS patient showed an increased colonization of non Candida albicans species, one of them is Candida tropicalis. The main therapy of Oral Candidiasis is control the overgrowth of candida species using antifungal agent. Garcinia mangostana L. is one of herbal medicine that can be a alternative therapy of Oral Candidiasis by its antifungal activity from xanton, flavonoid, and tanin. Purpose. to know the antifungal effect of Garcinia mangostana L. extract against Candida tropicalis colonization. Method. This research was an experimental laboratory. Candida tropicalis was taken from the Oral Candidiasis in HIV/AIDS stadium IV patient. Then, serial dilution method was used on Garcinia mangostana L. extract from 100% to 0,785%. In every serial dilution tube given 0,1 ml of Candida tropicalis inoculum then incubated in a day. Cross check was done after the incubated in SDA. To get a research data every tube was grown in SDA then count the colony. It was replicated 3 times and the data was analyzed by a statistic test. Result. There was a significant effect from Garcinia mangostana L. extract against candida tropicalis, it’s shown by statistic value in ANOVA that the sig. is 0,000 (p < 0,05). Conclusion. Garcinia mangostana L. extract has antifungal effect against Candida tropicalis, it has MIC at 25% and MFC at 50%.
