Abstract
Background: Bleaching with strawberry paste is an alternative use to whiten teeth. General concern regarding the vital bleaching technique include potential adverse or side effects during and after treatment. Either side effect of bleaching is the decrease of tensile bond strength on composite resin. Purpose: This study was aimed to know the effect of strawberry paste as a bleaching agent on tensile bond strength values of composite resin to human enamel after bleaching. Methods:18 enamel surface from extracted human first premolars were bleached with strawberry paste. Resin composite structure was bult-up on the bonded oclusal surface to facilitate specimen preparation for microtensile testing. The bonded teeth were sectioned in a bucco-lingual direction in slices approximately 1 mm thick. Each slice was treammed with a fine diamond disc bur to reduce the buccal than sliced vertically into 1mm2. The sample was randomly devided in 3 groups of 6 specimens each : control (without treatment), bleaching with strawberry paste in 5 minutes every 8 hours for 2 weeks and bleaching with strawberry paste in 5 minutes every 8 hours for 3 weeks. After the treatment, samples were tested with the microtensile methods with Autograph machine. Data were analyzed by one way-ANOVA and LSD test. Result: This study showed that there was the decrease in tensile bond strength between composite resin to enamel which is indicated by a significant difference in each group of samples. Conclusion: The decrease in tensile bond strength were found between enamel with resin composite after strawberry fruit pastes were applied as a bleaching.
