Abstract

Background: People with HIV infection continues to increase every year and become a global health problem.United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) estimates that 13% of injecting drug users are also infected with HIV/AIDS worldwide. Oral manifestation are closely related to the early clinical signs of HIV infection, progression of HIV infection, and decision of antiretroviral therapy. Purpose: The purpose of this study to find out the prevalence of oral manifestation in injecting drug users infected with HIV/AIDS at Orbit Foundation Surabaya. Methods: Descriptive observational study with cross-sectional and total sampling method. Subjects consisted of 55 Injecting Drug Users who are infected with HIV/AIDS at Orbit Foundation Surabaya from September- November 2015. Oral examination conducted by dentists to determine the oral lesions. Results: 15 cases (50%) Oral Candidiasis, 5 cases (16.7%) Oral Hairy Leukoplakia, 4 cases (13.3%) Angular Cheilitis, 3 cases (10%) Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis, 3 cases (10%) Linear Gingival Erythema. Conclussion: Candidiasis Oral is the most common oral manifestation which strongly associated with HIV/AIDS.
