Abstract

Background: Hypertension remains a huge health problem in the world, especially in Indonesia. World Health Organization describes that hypertension (high blood pressure) is a condition when the pressure of heart vessels increased gradually. High blood pressure cannot be cured, but it can be managed through lifestyle changes and antihypertensive drugs. Antihypertensive drugs itself can caused several side-effects in the oral mucosa, such as Gingival Enlargement, Burning Mouth Syndrome, and Oral Ulcerations. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to find out the prevalence of non-allergic soft tissue abnormality in the oral mucosa of an antihypertensive drugs users at Haji Hospital Surabaya. Method: Observational descriptive study with cross-sectional and total sampling method. Result: This study showed that 5 patients suffer from gingival enlargement, and 17 patients suffer from burning mouth syndrome. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is not all the patients who take the antihypertensive drugs suffer the side-effects in their oral mucosal.
