Abstract

Background. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that causes Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The number HIV cases in Indonesia tend to increase. Injecting Drug Users are one of the high risk group for transmiting HIV infection. HIV-infected patient has a weak immune system so it is vulnerable to opportunistic infection and might give clinical manifestation in oral cavity. Linear Gingival Erythema (LGE) is a gingival manifestation on HIV-infected patient and can be as a biomarker of HIV infection. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to find out the prevalence of LGE in Injecting Drug Users infected with HIV/AIDS at Yayasan Orbit Surabaya. Methods. Descriptive observasional study with cross-sectional and total sampling method. Subject consisted of 55 Injecting Drug Users who are infected with HIV/AIDS at Yayasan Orbit Surabaya from September to November 2015. Oral examination conducted by dentist to observe LGE. Results. Prevalence of LGE in Injecting Drug Users infected with HIV/AIDS is 3 cases from 55 patient (5,5%). Conclusion. LGE is less common lesion in Injecting Drug Users infected with HIV/AIDS.
