Abstract

Background. Plaque was a reason the occurred of periodontal problems, such as gingivitis and periodontitis. Applicating antibacterial substances can be a solution to prevent it. Robusta coffee is one of the most frequent type of coffee consumed by community. Robusta coffee contains caffeine, which can interfere with bacterial protein synthesis, polyphenols, which degrade the cell walls of bacteria and trigonelline, can affect the stability of the bacterial membrane. Purpose. The aim of this study was to determine the inhibition of Robusta coffeebean extract to the growth of plaque bacteria colonies. Method. The study was conducted by using dilution techniques and planting on MHA medium with counting the number of growth colonies. Results. There are significant differences at the growth of plaque bacteria colonies from concentrations 1.56 %. Conclusion.Robusta coffee bean extract was effective to inhibit the growth of plaque bacteria colony.
