Abstract
Achasin and Mytimacin-AF has been found as antimicrobial protein from snail mucus (Achatina fulica). The aims of this research is to compare effectiveness of Achasin and Mytimacin-AF, and investigate other proteins from snail mucus (Achatina fulica) that exhibited antimicrobial activity to Streptococcus mutans and Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans. First step of study was snail collection from Yogyakarta Province, protein isolation, protein profilling using SDS-PAGE methods, electroelution, dialysis, and nanodrop test used to determine protein concentration. Second step of this study was sensitivity test using dilution test continued by specthrophotometry, and paper disc diffusion test. Achasin have molecular weight of 83,67 kDa and Mytimacin-AF have molecular weight of 9,7 kDa. Achasin has better antimicrobial activity to Streptococcus mutans and Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans than Mytimacin-AF in paper disc diffusion test. Other proteins which have antimicrobial activity are protein with molecular weight of 50,81 kDa, 15 kDa, and 11,45 kDa.
