Abstract

Background. Malocclusion is a deviation from normal occlusion. Prevalence of malocclusion in Indonesia is approximately 80%. PAR Index is index that can use to measure the severity of malocclusion and treatment result. Arabian populations are about 5 million people in Indonesia and majority located in Java. 8-12 years old children are in mixed dentition phase. Purpose. To find out prevalence and severity of malocclusion in 8-12 years old Arabian children at Al Irsyad Elementary School Surabaya. Material and Method. This study using 30 dental cast from 8-12 years old Arabian children at Al Irsyad Elementary School Surabaya. All cast observed using Angle classification of malocclusion and PAR Index. Result. Prevalence of malocclusion in 8-12 years old Arabian children at Al Irsyad Elementary School Surabaya is mostly class I Angle malocclusion with 25 sample (83,33%). Furthermore, severity of malocclusion is mostly mild malocclusion with 13 sample (43,33%) and moderate malocclusion with 13 sample (43,33%). Conclussion. Prevalence of malocclusion in 8-12 years old Arabian children at Al Irsyad Elementary School Surabaya is class I Angle malocclusion. Severity of malocclusion in 8-12 years old Arabian children at Al Irsyad Elementary School Surabaya is mild malocclusion and moderate malocclusion.
