Abstract

Background. Meniran (Phyllanthus niruri L.) is one of medicinal plant from Indonesia which is commonly use for curing many kind of disease. Phyllanthus niruri L. has chemical substance such as flavonoids and phyllanthin that has a characteristic as imunostimulan. Phyllanthus niruri L. extract also has advantage as wound healing, it can increase contraction and epithelialization of excised wounds. There had never been research of the use of Phyllanthus niruri L. extract in increasing the amount of PMN cells in the socket post tooth extraction. Purpose. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Phyllanthus niruri L. extract gel in increasing the amount of PMN cells post tooth extraction of Cavia cobaya. Method. This study was used post test only control group design. Thirty five male Cavia cobaya age about 3 month and weight about 250-300 grams are being used. Tooth extraction is being done on the lower left incisor. The thirty five Cavia cobaya were divided into five groups; cmc-Na3% (negative control), Phyllanthus niruri L. extract gel 22,5%, 45%, 90%, Povidon Iodine (positive control). The data were analyzed statistically using One-Way ANOVA and LSD0.05. Result. The result of every tested groups showed p>0.05, thereby all the data had a normal distribution. Therefore, a One-Way ANOVA test with 5% significant rate was done and continued by LSD test to find the significant difference in each groups. Examination showed there were significant different in PMN cells amount between Phyllanthus niruri L. extract gel and the two control groups (p<0,05). Conclusion. The application Phyllanthus niruri L. extract gel can increase the amount of PMN cells in the socket post tooth extraction of Cavia cobaya.
