Abstract

Background. Wound is a health problem in the society. Wound is interruption of skin normal condition. All living organism have been capable of self repair. Wound healing is one of the most important regenerative processes that most organism exhibit. For decades, electrical stimulation have been used to promote wound healing. Electrical current is the trigger that stimulates healing, growth, and regeneration. Purpose. The aim of this study was to proof that microcurrent electrical stimulation can accelerate incision wound healing. Method. This research was done in seven male rabbits between 4 to 10 months old. All of the rabbits are in healthy condition. A 4 cm full thickness incision in I shape was made on the back skin of each rabbit. The incision was made in right and left side of rabbit’s back. An electrostimulator with maximum current 60 microamperes was applicated on the right side incision of each rabbit through electrodes. Application was done for three days, 30 minutes/day. A biopsy was done for all wound incision of all rabbits at day 4. The number of vascular was counted. Results. There were significant differences between incision wound with microcurrent electrical stimulation compared with incision wound without microcurrent electrical stimulation. Conclusion. Incision wound with microcurrent electrical stimulation heals faster than incision wound without microcurrent electrical stimulation.
