Abstract
Background: Traditional medicine with herbal being used for so long in Indonesia such as Meniran (Phyllanthus niruri L.). Phyllanthus niruri Linn is also a well known medicinal plant which has been used in many parts of the world as hepatoprotective, antiviral, antibacterial, analgesic, antispasmodic, anti-tumor activity, antioxidant and anti diabetic due to these chemical substances. One of the chemical substances of Phyllanthus niruri Linn is tannin, which is known as an astringent in medical world. As an astringent, tannin can precipitate the blood protein and it can cause the function of blood protein as anticoagulant become pursued. Empirically, tannin may has haemostatic effect in bleeding on mice’s tail wound. Purpose: The aim of this study was to prove the haemostatic effect of Phyllanthus niruri Linn extract in bleeding on mice’s tail wound. Method : Fourty eigth samples were examined which was separated by 4 groups, 1st group as control group, 2nd group as 1st sample group (with 22,5% of Phyllanthus niruri Linn extract), 3rd group as 2nd sample group (with 45% of Phyllanthus niruri Linn extract) and 4th group as 3rd sample group (with 90% of Phyllanthus niruri Linn extract). The focus of the haemostatic effect is bleeding time on mice’s tail wound. The results of whole blood clotting time using precipitated blood of mice’s tail which is dropped until it stopped physiologically, timer used as counter during the blood precipitation and were examined with oneway ANOVA then continued with HSD Test. Result: This study is proving the haemostatic effect of 22,5% of Phyllanthus niruri Linn extract in bleeding on mice’s tail wound and there are different significancy between 1st sample group (with 22,5% of Phyllanthus niruri Linn extract) and 3rd sample group (with 90% of Phyllanthus niruri Linn extract) (p<0,05). Conclusion: Phyllanthus niruri Linn extract with the rate 22,5% has haemostatic effect in bleeding on mice’s tail wound.
