Abstract

Background. Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gingiva. Feracrylum is a water-soluble polymer of polyacrylic acid which is known for its haemostatic property. Feracrylum reacts with free proteins to form an insoluble polycomplex. It reacts mainly with albumin and converts soluble fibrinogen to insoluble fibrin which then forms a coagulum. Purpose. To assess the effect of irrigation of feracrylum 1% to arrest hemorrhage in gingivitis patients. Method. Fifteen patients with gingivitis participated in this study chosen by non-random sampling methods. The parameter was the bleeding time while probing. The right regio noted as the normal bleeding time and the left regio noted as the bleeding time with irrigation of feracrylum 1%. Result. A significant difference related to bleeding time between with and without irrigation of feracrylum 1% (p < 0.000) was noted. Conclusion. Irrigation of feracrylum 1% can accelerate the bleeding time in gingivitis patients.
