Abstract

Olive oil is a major source of oil for the people of the Mediterranean who have cardiovascular disease are low compared to other countries. Good habits were being copied by the Indonesian people based on preliminary surveys, as many as 20 people found in Indonesia consume extra virgin olive oil in daily life. This relates to the denture users who consume extra virgin olive oil, because the content of polyphenols led to the destruction of the chemical on polymethyl methacrylate chain so that it can affect the strength of the denture base.Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the transverse strength of heat-cured acrylic resin after contact with extra virgin olive oil. Method: The sample of this study is the plate made of PMMA acrylic resin types heat cured (65x10x2,5 mm) were divided into six groups, each group consisting of 6 samples. Immersion heat cured acrylic resin plate in a solution of distilled water as a control group and in extra virgin olive oil as a treatment group of each group were immersed for 7 days, 14 days, and 21 days. After soaking, the transverse strength of heat cured acrylic resin was measured using a Shimadzu AG-10TE Autograph brands. Further transverse strength test results were analyzed by statistical tests Two-Way ANOVA. Result: shows the p-values greater than 0.05 (p> 0.05), which means there is no significant difference in the transverse strength of heat cured acrylic resin after soaked for 7 days, 14 days, and 21 days in extra virgin olive oil. Conclusion: Soaking heat cured acrylic resin in extra virgin olive oil for 7 days, 14 days, and 21 days did not experience a significant decrease in the transverse strength.
