Abstract

Background: The growth and development of teeth is important to be understoodby a dentist in the care of pediatric patients. It relates to the treatment plan will be carried out. Linkage of a population with the pattern of tooth eruption is important to note. Tooth eruption patterns in a population can be used to estimate a person's age. When a disaster occurs, then the identification of the victim can be done based on population estimates and age through teeth analize. The population of Java is the largest population in Indonesia. Almost half of the approximately 240 million inhabitants Indonesia is the Javanese population. Because the sequence of eruption of permanent teeth is important, then it need further observed the eruption sequence of permanent teeth in Javanese children population in Surabaya. Objective: The objective of this study was to obtain an overview of permanent tooth eruption sequence in population of Java based on gender. Method: The study was divided into seven groups based on age with the range of age between 6-12 years. Researchers perform data recording permanent teeth that have erupted in the group with observation and intra oral photograph. Result: The sequence of permanent tooth eruption both in girls and boys are as following, in the upper jaw M1, I1, I2, P1, C, P2 and M2, while in the lower jaw, M1, I1, I2, C, P1, P2, and M2. Difference between the permanent teeth eruption in the upper jaw and lower jaw between boys with girls in population of Java is only found in I1 upper jaw and P1 lower jaw. Conclusion: This study shown that the sequence of permanent teeth eruption in upper jaw are M1, I1, I2, P1, C, P2 and M2, while in the lower jaw, M1, I1, I2, C, P1, P2, M2. And there is a permanent tooth eruption time difference between boys and girls on the tooth element I1 upper jaw and P1 lower jaw. Therefore, the order of eruption of permanent teeth can be used as one method of determining the approximate age.
