Abstract
Background: Burns is defined as a traumatic injury to the skin or other organic tissue primarily caused by thermal or other acute exposure. Once significant burn occurred, systemic changes, resulting in capillary leakage. Hypoalbuminemia cause decreasing Colloid-Oncotic Pressure and resulting in harmful hypovolemic shock and increasing risk of mortality. Albumin administrationis required to accelerate wound healing and reduce risk of death in patient with burns. Objective: The aims of this study were to analyze the profile of albumin used in moderate and severe burn patients and to identify drug related problems (DRPs) of albumin. Method: It was a retrospective study during period January 2012 to April 2015 at Rumkital Dr. Ramelan Surabaya. As for the analysis, the descriptive approach is employed to illustrate the data Result: The results showed that albumin use in moderate and severe burn patients were 20% and 25% in 100 mL. Frequency of albumin administration was once a day. Most of some cases, albumin has been administered if albumin levels was < 3,0 mg/dL. Administration of albumin until albumin level reach > 3,0 g/dL. Albumin administration in other patient was combined with high-protein intake. Levels of albumin increased after albumin administration was 0,4 g/dL on average. Found one DRP classification as additional therapy category occurred in five patient. There is indication in hypoalbuminemia (albumin level of four patients is 2,4 mg/dL and one patient is 2,3 mg/dL) but albumin not administered. Conclusion: Albumin use in moderate and severe burn patients when albumin levels < 3,0 mg/dL or depend on patient conditions. It was administered once a day in that indications.
