Abstract

Background Leptin is a hormone synthesized by fat tissue are involved in regulating appetite and energy metabolism. Papillae fungiformis have sensitivity to sweet taste, because the number of taste receptor cells in taste buds are in papil, so positive when it is said that the number of papillae associated with the number of taste receptor cells. and therefore in people with diabetes, leptin acts as a modulator of sweet taste that can be reduce cell damage caused by the destruction of pancreatic beta cells. Purpose this research is to investigate the effects of leptin on fungiformis papilla height changes in rats with diabetes mellitus type 2 condition. Method. twenty one healthy White mice aged 4-8 weeks Rats were divided into 3 treatment groups, in order to get the number of samples for each treatment are intraperitoneally injected with STZ and nicotonamide intraperitoneally during 3 days in a row, On day 7 post-induction of STZ and nicotinamide functioning pancreatic beta cell damage, each group began treatment with injections of leptin given intraperitoneally every day for 7 days. Results. Recognition thresholds for leptin on a comparison between the study groups in general no significant difference was found higher number of papillae difference between the three study groups. this is indicated by (p=0,305; p>0,05). Conclusion. By histopathology, the granting of leptin in the rats model of type 2 diabetes mellitus does not occur in the epithelial papilla height changes fungiformis tongue
