Abstract

Background. The teeth in the oral cavity will erupt accordingly beginning from primary dentition to the permanent dentition phase. The process of teeth eruptionbe it primary or permanent dentition will occur physiologically and rarely experiences disturbance. Disturbance generally occurs during the transitional phase. Sometimes, malpositioning of the permanent dentition tooth causes it erupt in the wrong location, the phenomenon is also known as ectopic. If treatment is not taken immediately there will be a risk of tooth resistence and can cause permanent damage to the root of the adjacent permanent tooth. Purpose. The aim of this study is to find the prevalence of ectopic teeth in Clinic of Orthodontic Dentistry Airlangga University period 2004 – 2006. Method. Patient’s status cards, panoramic and periapical radiographs are examined to find the percentage of ectopic teeth. Results. The prevalence of ectopic teeth among 2004-2006 is 5,63%, the ratio of male and female is 1:7. Conclusions. The most common ectopic teeth in Dental Specialist Clinic of Dentistry Airlangga University is maxillary canine. The presence of ectopic teeth must be carefully investigated using radiographs.
