Abstract

Background : propolis is a resinous bee product, has been shown to inhibit the growth of oral microorganism, so propolis used as a denture cleansing agent. The influence of propolis penetration on the acry lic is still unknown so that a research should be conducted. Purpose : to qualitatively asses th e effect of penetration of propolis color on the acrylic. Method : five groups of sample i.e. group 1 (control) : plate of acrylic soaked in aquadest, group 2 : plate of acrylic soaked 8 hour in propolis, group 3 : plate of acryl ic soaked 24 hour in propolis, group 4 : plate of acrylic soaked 48 hour in propolis , and group 5 : plate of acrylic soaked a week in propolis. Result : there was significant di fference of control group compared to the other groups. The datas obtained are tabulated, then continue analized with one way Anova and L east Significant Difference (LSD). Conclusion : there was a significant penetration of propolis color in all groups. The result suggest that propolis should not use as dentur e cleansing agent. Keywords : propolis, acrylic, penetr ation of propolis color
