Abstract

Background: impacted teeth are unerupted or partially erupted teeth that cannot fully erupt. The mandibula third molar is the most frequently impacted teeth in a human. Impacted mandibula third molar are often associated with referred pain, such as headache, migraine, neck stiffness, and otalgia. Referred pain is a spontaneous heterotropic pain that is felt in a area innervated by a different nerve from the one that mediates the primary pain. Purpose: This study aims to understand referred pain on patients impacted teeth mandibula third molar before and after odontectomy 2010-2011. Method: The type of this study is observational description. Files from this study were obtained from medical record of impacted teeth mandibula third molars in Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut Airlangga University 2010-2011 are compiled in the form of tabulations based on the patient with referred pain. Result: From 724 cases impacted mandibula third molar there are 15 patients (2.07%) with referred pain with details of 6 patients headache, 3 patients migraine, 2 eye pain, 2 otalgia, and 3 neck stiffness. Conclusion: impacted mandibula third molar associated with referred pain was found 14 patients (93.33%) cured after odontectomy.
