Abstract

The aim of this research investigated the antibacteria activity of the ethanol extract Hibiscus rosa-sinensis leaves against Escherichia coli by in vitro. The effectivity of shoe flower (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) leaves have several substances such as tanin, saponin, flavonoid, terpenoid, alkaloid, and fenol. Those substances were indicated as antibacteria against Escherichia coli and it can be used alternative theraphy. Dilution method with five concentrations were used in this research to determine Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). The concentrations were used : 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% each concentration was repeated with 4 repetitions. The MIC result can not be determined because of the color was very dark and thick consistency, it cause the turbidity can not be determined. The MBC result showed that 20% concentration can kill Escherichia coli in vitro.
