Abstract

The aim of this research was to do the seroprevalence against H5 subtype of Avian Influenza virus on Bats in Kalimantan. The research method utilize by Hemagglutination Inhibition (HAI) assay using H5 antigen from Avian Influenza Research Center Universitas Airlangga (AIRC-Unair). The serological survey was conducted in February and April 2015. The sera samples for HAI assay were added Receptor Destroying Enzyme (RDE) with 3:1 (v/v). Forty three sera from three provinces consisted of four sera from Central Kalimantan, twenty five from West Kalimantan and fourteen from East Kalimantan. Thirteen of forty three samples (30,2%) had specific antibody of Avian Influenza subtype H5, each zero sample from central Kalimantan, twelve samples from West Kalimantan and one sample from East Kalimantan. We recommend sustaining ongoing surveillance and using the confirmation methods. This work was supported by a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science-Directorate General of Higher Education Ministry Culture & Education (JSPS-DGHE) Joint Research Project for 2013-2016.
