Abstract

Swamp buffalo is the one of most potential livestock comodity in Indonesia. For the people in Kutai Kartanegara, swamp buffalo are not only prestigious degree in their family, but also it can be substitute meat from cow to stabilize the supply of food. The negative growth factor in this swamp buffalo can be occurred from Trypanosomiasis which caused by blood protozoa Trypanosoma evansi. The symptom from this disease spread sporadically and sometimes causes death on swamp buffalo. The purpose of this research is to determine the prevalence of Trypanosomiasis disease on the Swamp Buffalo in Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan. This research had been taken January 26th until 13th April 2015. This study used a non-experimental method through an observation studies. Samples used in this study were 80 blood samples. The method of this research was gained some blood from peripheral tissue in swamp buffalo’s ear. The results of blood swap examination showed that 6 of 80 samples was infected by Trypanosoma evansi. Prevalence of Trypanosomiasis disease on the Swamp Buffalo in Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan was 7.5 %.
