Abstract

Newcastle Disease (ND), which is caused by Avian Paramyxovirus type 1 (APMVI) is an acute and contagious poultry disease. ND is endemic in Indonesia, caused high mortality and sharp drop in egg production. ND virus in waterfowl and bird species other than chicken may occur without clinical sign. These birds may serve as reservoir of ND virus and shed virus to environment. The aim of this research was to determine seroprevalence of Newcastle Disease (ND) virus in ducks (Anas javanicus) in slaughterhouses in Lumajang district. Totally 96 samples were taken from two slaughterhouses in Rowokangkung and Lumajang subdistrict on May 2015. HaemagglutinationInhibition (HI) test was used to determine positive result according to the Office International des Epizooties (OIE) with antibody titer of 4 log2 or more. The samples for HI test were collected from duck sera that have been treated with chicken red blood cell. The result showed 17 (17,71%) from 96 samples were positive ND.
