Abstract
The aim of this research was to study the effect of banana peel extract addition to diluter on the quality of frozen semen. Simmental semen was diluted in skim milk yolk, which used as control; for other treatments were added banana peel extract 20%, 30%, and 40%. Semen was packaged in 0.25 ml straws and frozen in liquid nitrogen. Later, post-thaw spermatozoa quality based on motility, viability, and plasma membrane integrity were observed. Result showed that diluter with addition of banana peel extract 40% improved post-thawing motility and viability (p<0.05). Meanwhile, plasma membrane integrity was not affected (p˃0.05). However, intact plasma membrane in diluter with the addition of banana peel extract 40% was greater compared to diluter without banana peel extract addition.
