Abstract
The aim of this study was to identify H5 subtype Avian Influenza virus in bats from Central Kalimantan Province. The study was located at Avian Influenza Research Center (AIRC) Airlangga University in the BSL-2 Laboratory. This study was conducted from February to April 2015. This study material was organ from bats in Palangkaraya, including lungs, intestine, gastric, liver and kidney. Samples were inoculated in SAN (Specific Antibody Negative) 9-11 days embryonated chicken eggs, then were incubated at 37°C for 3 days. At fourth day, the allantoic fluid were harvested. The method used in this research was Haemagglutination Inhibition (HI). Hemaglutination (HA) test was used to screen a hemagglutinin proteincontained microorganism, such Avian Influenza viruses. The sampels that showed titre more than 22 was continued for Hemagglutination Inhibition (HI) test. The Hemagglutination Inhibition Test (HI) using antisera from ferret which was specific to Indonesia isolated H5N1 virus. The result of this study showed that 3 of 48 (6,25%) samples were identified as Avian Influenza H5 virus. Therefore, it is suggested to do further study to confirm the presence of Avian Influenza subtype H5 virus using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) or Cell culture.
