Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the antiviral property of propolis and its inhibition against the replication of Newcastle Disease virus in embryonated chicken egg shown in the result of hemagglutination (HA) test. This research used complete randomized design. Seventy embryonated chicken eggs were divided into seven treatment groups (P0, P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, and P6) and each group was composed of 10 replications. Same dose of propolis and ND virus titer were applied. The dose of propolis was 100μl with 2400 μg/100μl concentration and the ND virus titer was 107 EID50/ml. P0 (control group) was given only ND virus. P1 was given ND virus and propolis extract right after the virus inoculation, P2 was given ND virus and propolis extract after one day of inoculation, P3 was given ND virus and propolis extract after two days of inoculation, in P4, ND virus and propolis extract were mixed and then injected into the eggs, in P5, ND virus and propolis extract were mixed and then after 2 hours were injected into the eggs, in P5, ND virus and propolis extract were mixed and then after 4 hours were injected into the eggs, in P6, ND virus and propolis extract were mixed and then after 6 hours were injected into the eggs. The research was observed with hemagglutination test. The observation was analyzed with Kruskall-Wallis test using SPSS program for Windows 21. Overall there was a significant difference in the antiviral effect of propolis extract between each treatment.
