Abstract
The purpose of this research was to know the contamination level of bacterium Listeria monocytogenes on chicken carcasses sold at some super markets in Surabaya. A total of 10 chicken carcasses were collected during Mei 23th until June 6th 2011 by simple random sampling methode. The methode used in this study was culturing meats in Listeria enrichment broth, then streaked on Palcam Agar, continued with Gram stain, Triple Sugar Iron Agar, Sulfide Indol Motility Agar, Methyl Red, Voges Proskauer, Catalase test, CAMP test and Glucosa test. The result indicated that none of sample, was positive of Listeria monocytogenes. It can be concluded that Listeria monocytogenes during the time of the study could not be found in chicken carcasses sold at some super markets in Surabaya.
