Abstract

The aim of the study was to detect Avian Influenza H5 viral shedding in chickens post immunized using Indonesian virus isolates and commercial vaccines, after challenge using Indonesian Avian Influenza H5N1 isolates. Six groups of chickens were vaccinated , five groups using several Indonesian virus isolates Avian Influenza H5N1, while the remaining group using commercial vaccine. Four weeks after the last booster vaccination, all groups of chickens were challenged with A/Ck/Indonesia/BL/2003 (H5N1) virus isolates. At day 1 to 8 post challenge, cloacal swabs were taken followed by isolation in 8 to 10 days old embryonated eggs and confirm using HA and HI test. The result showed that Avian Influenza fecal viral shedding in vaccinated group was low to completely negative, while in control group could be detected from second up to fourth days post challenged until the death of chickens.
