Abstract

The aim of this study was to produce an attenuated strain of Eimeria tenella by serial passage of precocious lines. This study used the oocyst production and pre-patent period for a signing the E. tenella was attenuated. Three serial passages had occurred in 24 broiler roosters with eight roosters each passage. The first passage used the non passage E.tenella, second passage used the precocious lines of E.tenella from first passage, then the third passage used the precocious lines of E.tenella from second passage. The oocyst production was counted from feces samples that took every day started from 91 hours after infection. Oocyst was examined under microscope and was counted using Whitlock Chamber. The result showed that no significantly different (p > 0.05) in oocyst production between the first passage as control with the second and third passage, but there was significantly different (p < 0.05) in the abridgement of prepatent period.
