Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know level of contamination of bacterium of Listeria monocytogenes on beef that were sold at some traditional market in Surabaya. A total of 30 beefs were collected by simple random. The methode used was culturing meats in Listeria enrichment broth, then streaked on Listeria Oxford Agar, then continued with Gram stain and confirmation test covering cultivation at Triple Sugar Iron Agar, Motility Agar, Methyl Red, Voges Proskauer, Catalase test, and Glucosa test. The result indicated that during June 16th until July 7th 2010 were 0% from 30 sample sold at some traditional market in Surabaya was negatively infected by Listeria monocytogenes. It can be concluded that beef sold in some traditional markets in Surabaya not found from the bacterium of Listeria monocytogenes.
