Abstract

The seed of fresh pangi is contains of certain chemical substance, there were saponins, flavonoids, and polyphenols. Extract and seed powders of pangi through the test of phytochemical compounds contains of essential oils, fatty acids, sterols, flavonoids, tannins, reducing sugars, saponins, emodol, and poliuronida. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of ethanol extract of seeds from young pangi (Pangium edule Reinw) in male mice (Mus musculus) that can decrease the quality of sperm. Eighteen mice were divided into three groups. The treatment dosages were control (P0) by administering of 0,5 ml aquadest, P1 4mg/20g BB and P2 6mg/20gBB given orally every day for 35 days. At the 36th day mice were sacrificed and sectioned to remove epididymis spermatozoa. Epididymis sperm suspension was used to investigate sperm quality that is motility and viability. Quantitative data were analyzed using ANOVA and continued BNJ on 5% significance level. The result showed extract of pangi seed (Pangium edule Reinw.) had effect to decrease the sperm quality that is motility and viability.
