Abstract
The purpose of this study is to know the total number of bacteria in fresh and pasteurized milk in Wonocolo District, Surabaya. The study was conducted on four dairy farms which produce fresh milk and four street sellers which sell pasteurized milk. The number of samples taken from each dairy farm and street sellers are three packs of fresh and pasteurized milk. The samples are put in the cold container and brought to the Veterinary Public Health Laboratory of Airlangga University for testing. This study used TPC method by implementing casting method. The medium used is NA (Nutrient Agar) which is a common medium for bacterial growth. The results of study the total bacteria found in fresh milk from dairies is 2,0 x 106 cfu/ml, while the total bacteria in pasteurized milk sold by street sellers are 4,8 x 104 cfu/ml.
