Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the sensitivities of Escherichia coli isolated from laying hens with diarrhea to antibiotics. Fifteen of sixty samples have characteristics like rod shaped, Gram negative, lactose fermented, produce indole, motile and didn’t use citrate. Antibiotic had been used for sensitivity test were ampicillin, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, gentamicin, penicillin and tetracycline by in vitro using Kirby-Bauer method. Disc of these antibiotics were put on the surface of MHA media with growing Escherichia coli on it. Diameter of inhibitor area surrounding around the discs were measured on mm to identify either the isolates resistant or not. Test result of a sensitivity to six antibiotic that no one antibiotic has a sensitivity of 100%. Sensitivity test is required with other antibiotics and drug combinations to find an effective antibiotic for cases of diarrhea caused by Escherichia coli.
