Abstract

The aims of research to determine the prevalence of Raillietina sp. worm infection on free-range and broiler chicken that were sold in several traditional markets and to determine difference prevalence of Raillietina sp. worm infection on free-range and broiler chicken that were sold in traditional markets in Surabaya city. The study used part of free-range and broiler chicken intestine that were taken from several places in Surabaya city. The samples were taken lach 20 pieces chicken intestine from Wonokromo, Pacarkeling, Pabean, Kembang and Keputran markets. The method was done by intestines mucasal observation to find the worms. Raillietina sp. Were collected and stained by Charmine. To find the infection Raillietina sp. worm on broiler and free-range chicken intestine, examination do by splitting the small intestine with scissors or scalpel and take the worm attached in intestine mukosa with tweezers. Calculation of Raillietina sp. worm infection based of the examination indicated is positive if had Raillietina sp. worm in sample that examinated. Worms found include in physiological NaCl solution, next step is the identification and performed staining Carmin. Data were analyzed by using chi square test with 5% confidence level the result shared that there are significant by differences (p<0,05) between the prevalence of Raillietina sp. worm infections in broiler and free-range chicken were sold in traditional markets in Surabaya city. Worm infection in free-range chicken and broiler at several market in Surabaya and no difference (p>0,05) on prevalence of raillietina sp. worm infection between free-range chicken and broiler.
