Abstract

Increased incidence of STIs cannot be separated to high risk behavior. Transvestite is a high-risk group for contracting to STIs and HIV. Number of transvestites in Sidoarjo is quite a lot so that it becomes a way for the spread of STIs is high. This research aimed to analyze risky sexual behavior associated with the incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) on transvestites in Sidoarjo. This research was an analytic research using case-control study design, with transgender populations were taken using simple random sampling. The sample size used was 54 respondents, which used a ratio of 1: 2 that was the case group and the control group consisted of 18 and 36 individuals. Data was collected by interviews and questionnaires. Analysis was done using Chi-square test (X2). The variables studied were characteristics of transvestites, knowledge about sexually transmitted infections, attitudes and actions in the prevention of sexually transmitted infections. The results showed in the case group transvestite knowledge was low (55.6%) and in the control group the knowledge was high (80.6%), the attitude of transvestites in the case group was classified as less (55.6%) and the control group was relatively good (86.1%), action of transvestite relatively less in case group (66.7%) and in the control group was classified as good (83.3%). There was relationship between knowledge (p=0.007) with the incidence of sexually transmitted infections, there was a relationship between attitudes (p=0.001) with the incidence of sexually transmitted infection, there was a relationship between actions (p=0.000) with the incidence of sexually transmitted infections. Conclusion of the research showed that there was relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and actions with the incidence of sexually transmitted infections, Providing understanding of the needs of condoms and lubricants consistently and correctly during sex can prevent sexually transmitted infections. It is expected that the evaluation and monitoring of monthly It is expected that there is monthly evaluation and monitoring of direct distribution of condoms program to transvestites, so that transvestites will be all covered in the distribution of condoms and lubricants.
