Abstract

Risk management is the overall processing of identify hazards, assess risk, control risk and assess residual risk and to mitigate risk until acceptable. Every chemical hazardous material must be handled properly, such as load and transport in order to prevent the occurrence a fire, spill or leak and damage to the environment. The purpose of this research was to conduct a risk assessment, Identify and assess the control and residual risk assessment of sulfuric acid transporting process in PT Liku Telaga Gresik. This was an observational study with cross-sectional approach. Primary data was collected by observing and interviewing safety officer, loading operator and driver of chemical tanker. Secondary data were obtained from the company. The object of this research was the loading and process transport of sulfuric acid. The data was analyzed by using table and then compared with existing standard/regulation and theory. The method used in assessing risk refers to method applied by the company. The result of this research showed that there were 23 hazards that had been identified. According to risk assessment result there were 9 hazards (39,1%) with low risk category and 14 hazards (60,9%) with medium risk category. The hazard controlling which had been conducted were providing of lime, fire extinguisher, equip vehicles sulfuric acid requirements, education and training, providing of MSDS, labeling and symbols, vehicle inspection, 5S programs, health examination and providing personal protective equipment. All of the he control can reduce the risk to be low risk. The company advised to do additional work steps as a whole in the form of existing risk assessment and repair of inadequate control.
