Abstract

From the results of field observations and informal interviews with workers welding in jagir areas, during the period of the last three months had been approximately 8 work accidents include burns to the hands, feet as a result of the sparks and handshit by grindstone. This study in welding workshop was conducted to determine behavior of workers in the informal Industrial Welding Using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in Jagir-Wonokromo Surabaya. This was a descriptive study with a qualitative approach with a snowball sampling technique. With the determination of the initial sample amount was small, then enlarged. Data was collected through in-depth interviews and direct observation. Processing of the data processed in the form content analysis and tables. Content analysis used to determine the conclusion of a text while the table was used for the answers that have been concluded and also analyzed. The results showed that the welding industry informal workers still do not use PPE properly. Predisposing factors include knowledge, workers have good knowledge, only in attitudes and working practices are still not using PPE. For supporters of factors which include PPE is good, all the workers received from the owner of the shop facilities PPE. For reinforcing factors which include the regulation and monitoring is still not good. Based on the research, predisposing factors include knowledge worker behavior in the use of PPE either, while in the attitude and practice of workers are still not wearing PPE. Enabling factors which include the facility has also been good, because the APD has been supplied by the owner of the shop. Reinforcing factors which include regulation and supervision, in the welding workshop in the garage is not good because welding jagir-Wonokromo not provide clear rules and oversight in the use of PPE, this makes a lot of workers who consider that PPE was not necessary to use.
