Abstract

The beginning period of marriage is a critical period. During this period, various problems begin to surface and each partner is required to understand each other's personality. The maturity of the couple determines how the couple resolves the problem. Couples that are married in a young age have less preparation and maturity than couples that are married in an ideal age which led to domestic violence to the wife. The purpose of this study is to determine the differences between women that are married in a young age and women that are married in an ideal age for occurrence of domestic violence in the beginning of marriage. This study is an observational study with cross-sectional design. The interview questionnaire was conducted on 98 respondents, consisting of 63 respondents from the women that are married in an ideal age and 35 respondents from the women that are married in a young age, using simple random sampling method. Forms of violence that are analyzed include: physical violence, psychological violence, sexual violence and economic violence. Multivariate analysis uses Hotelling t2 test results p=0,00. That makes the pvalue smaller than α (α=0,05). If analyzed by the interval confidence each violence forms, the lower and upper limit of the physical violence and psychological violence does not pass 0, it show a significant difference between women that are married in young age and women that are married in an ideal age. As for the sexual violence and economic violence, the lower and upper limit of interval confidence pass 0, those two have no difference between women that are married in young age and women that are married in an ideal age. The conclusion of this study is there is a difference between women that are married in young age and women that are married in an ideal age for occurrence of domestic violence in the beginning of marriage. These differences are in physical violence and psychological violence. A further research is expected to increasing the age of marriage to show a difference in the sexual violence and economic violence, which are not showing in this study yet.
