Abstract

Noise is one of the main problems in the cause of hearing loss in Indonesia. Hearing loss due to noise in the workplace (ONIHL / Occupational Noise Induced Hearing Loss) occupied the highest proportion compared to other noise interference. A total of noise induced deafness is 34.7% more common in manufacturing industry. Basically, 50% of this hearing loss can be prevented with proper management, but in practice there are many workers who do not use ear protective equipment in the workplace is noisy. The purpose of this research was to analyze factors influence with the behavior of the workforce in using PPE. This study was conducted observational cross sectional study design. Location of research at PT. Timur Megah Steel, Driyorejo and performed at 80 labors. Dependent variable is the behavior of the use of PPE while the independent variables include age, working period, knowledge, attitudes, availability of PPE, comfortability of PPE, enforcement, and monitoring. Intensity of noise in the company between 86 – 93 dB and only 50% of employees who using PPE. The result showed that there was influence between age and comfortability of PPE with the behavior of PPE usage. The conclusion of this research that the employees are using PPE older than employees aren’t using PPE and the better comfortability of PPE the better behavior of the PPE usage. The advice given is to conduct socialization with the right method and time especially for the younger employees and prepare PPE to supply of PPE for long time for the employees.
