Abstract

Welders in industries are in a high risk of occupational accidents, especially when they are disobey the importance of Personal Protektif Equipmant (PPE) usage. By using PPE, workers can reduce the risk of accident. The purpose of this research was to study the correlation between predisposing, enabling and reinforcing factors with the usage of PPE at Battleship division of PT. PAL Indonesia (Persero). This was an observational study from cross-sectional approach. Sample (42 respondents) were taken randomly 70 population, who were welders at Battleship division. The dependent variable was the behavior of the use of PPE and the independent variables were the characteristics of workers, presdisposing factors, enabling factors and the reinforcing factors. The statistical test used was the rank Spearman correlation test to analyze the relationship and between predisposing factors and the behavior of the use of PPE while to analyze the relationship between supporting factors and behavioral factors the use of PPE, x2 test was applied with α = 0,05. The result showed that there were positive correlation between age, attitude and supervision with the practice of PPE usage. It can be concluded that the older the worker, the more careful and alert they would be and this would reduce the risk of accident. It highly recommended to the managemen to do effort to improve the workers attitude regarding the PPE usage. Supervision, rewarding and punishment system should be improved to motivate the workers in using PPE.
