Abstract

The increasing number of HIV and AIDS cases in Indonesia over the past few years heve been very alarming especially because the time of contracting occurs at an increasingly earlier age. This happens mainly because children and teenagers have started to have risk behaviours such as free sex and injecting drug use at earlier age. The research aims to know the relationship between knowledge, attitude, and teenager perception on parenting behaviour with the actions to prevent HIV transmission. The research used cross sectional design by using quantitative approach. The population was all teenage boys in RW 6, 10, and 12 Dolly, Kelurahan Putat Jaya. The number of respondents was as many as 75 respondents. Samples were chosen using systematic random sampling. Variables studied were characteristics, knowlledge, attitude, and teenager perception on parenting behaviours and the actions to prevent HIV transmission. The results showed that a number of respondents had good knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS (68%), good attitude (89.3%), good perception on parenting behaviour (85.3%) and good actions to prevent HIV transmission (80%) with less prevention action (20%). Chi-square test with continuity correction Exact fisher’s showed that there was no relation between knowledge and actions to prevent HIV transmission (p=0.762); there was no relation between attitude and actions to prevent HIV transmission (p=1.000); and there was no relation between teenager perception on parenting behaviour and actions to prevent HIV transmission (p=0.683). Thus there is no relationship between knowledge, attitudes and teenagers perceptions of parenting behavior with the actions to prevent HIV transmission in boys at prostitution area of Dolly Surabaya. It is expected to teenagers to improve their life skills to be able to reject premarital intercourse and drugs.
