Abstract

The number of HIV/AIDS case in Indonesia time after time increasing always. This is caused by the prevention effort of the infection transmission from sufferer to the other people is obstructed, and one of the causal is stigma and discrimination to the HIV/AIDS victim gave by many people. This research is carried out to study the university student's attitude to the HIV/AIDS victim and factors that influence that. The university student taken as the object of research because in there, can be found the highest age range cumulative HIV/AIDS victim in Indonesia. Airlangga University taken as the research location because it is one of the big university in East Java which is the province that got the third rank in the highest cumulative HIV/AIDS case in Indonesia. This research is carried out with the cross sectional design and use the quantitative approach using questionnaire instrument. The interview is carried out to 99 Si university students of Airlangga University, on 2003-2004 generation. The independent variables are: sex, lecture interested, the existence of HIV/AIDS victim, communication of respondent with HIV/AIDS victim, information source (except mass media, form media, electronic media), information explanation (except mass media, form media, electronic media source), and also knowledge. Result of this research shows that from 99 respondents, 78 respondents have a good attitude to the HIV/AIDS victim. Whereas from all of the independent variables, after the multiple linear regression test carried out, two independent variables that significant influence university student's attitude to the HIV/AIDS sufferer are obtained. The conclusion that can made is: there are two variables that influence the university student's attitude to the HIV/AIDS victim. They are: the existence of HIV/AIDS victim and knowledge. The suggestion is Airlangga University is expected can hold the seminar that brought in the HIV/AIDS victim.
