Abstract

Background : Wound healing after tooth extraction treatment should be an important consideration because the mouth discomfort and pain. Gardenia jasminoides composed of geniposide and chlorogenic acid acts as an anti-inflammatory in the wound healing process. Purpose : To prove that the extract of Gardenia jasminoides 3% potentially decrease wound healing. Methods : This experimental research design with post test only control group identified the effect of topical application of 3% of Gardenia jasminoides leaves water extract on wound healing by checking the appearance hitopathological of TNF alpha and blood vessels. Tooth extraction performed on insisive Mandibule of 28 rats were divided into control and test groups where the test group received a topical application of 3% of Gardenia jasminoides water extract of leaves. Wound examined on days 3 and 5 using a light microscope. Result : The results showed the tendency of better wound healing in the test group for all parameters based on data on day 3 and 5. One Way ANOVA l Independent t test (p <0.05) showed that the p-value for the blood vessels and TNF alpha is p = 0.000, p = 0.000. And test kolmogorov smirnorv and levene test showed readings above 0.05 (p> 0.05). The results are statistically significant. Conclusion : topical application of 3% of Gardenia jasminoides leaves water extracts effectively decreased the expression of TNF alpha and increase the number of blood vessels that will help the wound healing process.
