Abstract
One of the hazardous materials found in mining product of oil and gas is benzene. Benzene causes irritation to the respiratory tract, eyes, skin, central nervous system disorders, reproductive disorders and it is confirmed as human carcinogen. This study was conducted to analyze the health risk assessment process of whom operators were exposed to benzene in the terminal area of PT "X". The design was observational research with cross sectional approach and descriptive analysis. As the object of research was the HSE (Health Safety Environment) Coordinator, Supervisor, and operators associated to the implementation process of benzene health risk assessment. Variables investigated included hazard identification, risk assessment, prevention efforts and residual risk assessment. Potential hazards of benzene exposure in the process of oil and gas production was in terms of environment and activities of the process operator. Having identified the potential dangers of exposure to benzene at 22 places, carried out risk assessment that produces residual risk in 3 places with a critical situation and the medium-term monitoring activities were conducted, 2 places with low levels of critical situations, and 17 places with the situation under control. Conclusion after conducting health risk assessment is the level of danger and risk of benzene exposure on health for process operator were known. Level of residual risk is still high due to a discrepancy factor of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is used, information about the dangers of benzene, usage, storage and service life respirator are still low, information about the health risk assessment of benzene are not comprehensive. Suggestions that can be given to PT "X" is use the PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)with the type of danger inherent in such places, the strategy measurement plan benzene, benzene dose mapping, field inspection of the storage, service life and use of respirators every day by a supervisor or the HSE (Health Safety Environment) Committee, program safety campaigns, health campaigns and SEG (Similar Exposure Group) continued to be supervised its implementation, biological monitoring needs to be done regularly every year to the process operator.
