Abstract

Cassia spectabilis DC is a species of Leguminoceae. Since the flavonoide-glycosides from this species have not been reported, the isolation and structure determination of flavonoide-glycosides from the stem bark of Cassia spectabilis DC was interesting of the research. The extraction of flavonoid-glycosides was carried out by maceration method using methanol at room temperature. The methanol extract was then partition-extracted using n-hexane and ethyl-acetate subsequently. The ethyl-acetate extract was then separated by column gravitation chromatography and radial chromatography gave a flavonoid-glycoside. The isolated flavonoide-glycoside was then re-crystallized using the mixture of methanol-acetone giving a yellow powder (m.p 210°C). The structure of the isolated compound was determined by spectroscopy, namely using UV-Vis, IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR. Based on the spectroscopy data, it is concluded that the isolated compound is kaempferol-3-0-glucoside.
